I know there's been a lot of rumbling about all the rain, rain, RAIN much of the country has had this summer (me, included), but I say "shhhhhh! Your're gonna spoil it!" Really this summer has been just the nicest! Usually at this point it's so stifling hot out here, you don't want to stay there for more than a few minutes before you escape to your very expensive air conditioning. And whatever mild temperatures we have are usually when I'm totally incapacitated by allergies. So right now I'm living the dream...cool breezes at night with warm sunny days.
Ok, now I'm feeling a little lame for writing a post on the weather. It's like I'm making small talk at a dinner party or something. But really, that's just what these photos of Aurora reminded me of.
She's wearing her new pillowcase dress. It's a big hit because the butterflies are pink and yellow, her favorite colors.
I used
Anna Maria Horner's instructions for the general how-to, but there are plenty of different ways to make one. I used a vintage embroidered pillowcase that I bought specifically for this purpose.
I actually feel it's a bit big (and I think I made the arm holes too big) but then I'm hoping she'll get to wear it next summer too. It has kind of a nightgown feel to it...but I'm diggin' the simple, innocent look.
As for the photos....don't try this at home. She did end up with a little tick, which was no surprise since the field is like the ultra hang-out location for the deer.
I hope you all are feeling happy and energized from the sun. I myself will be heading to the beach soon without much internet access, so not only won't I be replying to many emails, but I'll be so far behind on blogs, I'm sure I'll have to hibernate when I get back just to catch up.

She is growing up so fast! I swear she looks older from the last time you posted pictures of her. Sweet dress!

I sometimes wonder how everyone in blog land has such beautiful and catalog-looking lives. It makes me so jealous, but also is encouraging for me to actually DO something from time to time. LOL
I am really hoping pillow case dresses stay in style long enough for me to make one for Lilah. It is about the level of clothing sewing skills I have. LOL
Beautiful and idyllic summertime post.

Such a cute dress for a precious girl! Where do you find a pillow case like that? I remember as a child we saw them at garage sales.....not so much today though. I'm definately keeping my eyes peeled!

I recently came across your blog and just finished reading it from the beginning. I wish I had known someone like you when my son was little - you have such wonderful birthday ideas! I also love the dresses you make your daughter. I too went to Quilt Market for the first time this year - as a guest of a designer. What an amazing experience! QM and blogs I read have inspired me to think about designing quilts again (something I did way back in the 70s out of necessity!). Thank you for the inspiration you provide and I'm looking forward to seeing your fabric line some day soon.

I have my summer must haves and tips. But what are yours? Maybe I can learn something new, or pick up something to add to mine. I mean beauty tips, styles you have to have in the summer, make-up, beauty products. Anything you love during the summer :) It can even be music!
